"BY DESIGN" IS WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT
Custom Is What We Do Best
Your product is unique and requires someone that understands what it takes to get it right the first time.

CRAFTSMANSHIP
Bench Built Quality
Your custom design deserves the craftsmanship and quality that comes from dedicated time on the workbench.

DETAILS MATTER
Materials & Joinery
Whether you prefer oak, walnut, maple, hickory, ash, mahogany, or even hard to find exotic woods, we have access to many solid wood species, as well as plywood options.

Joinery often tells a quality story of its own, or the application may dictate what is best. Whether you need mortise and tenon, box joints, dovetails, or pocket screws, we can do what you need.

PRODUCT ENGINEERING
From Concept to Drawings
Understanding the product inside and out is what we are all about. Engineered drawings ensure the best construction methods and standards for producing your items.

In most cases, we do build the products that we engineer, but if you need engineered drawings only, we can do that as well.

CUSTOM FINISHING
High Quality Coatings
Your project may require specific oils, stains, lacquers, varnishes, or urethanes. We are experienced in each of these finishing touches.

We work with both hand rubbed or sprayed coatings to achieve the look that finishes off your project and protects it for years to come.

REPAIR AND RESTORATION
Upcycle, Refinish, & Repair
You may have a need for upcycling, refinishing, or repair. We can help you through that process as well to renew great pieces that have many years of service left in them.

THE STORY BEHIND LUYE BY DESIGN
(Casey B Hearn - owner)
LUYE (preferred pronunciation "loo-yay") is an acronym for "Lift Up Your Eyes."

This has several meanings.
We live in a world that is full of distractions. Most of us have so many things competing for our attention that we often miss what is right in front of us. This could be because our eyes are fixed on an electronic device, or because our busyness causes us to miss much of what is right in front of us.

In furniture design, there’s a tendency to try so hard to be unique that one may sacrifice the design that is simple, elegant, and timeless. Great design inspiration is most often right in front of you.

A deeper meaning of LUYE comes from several scriptures in the Bible. The first time that Lift Up Your Eyes (LUYE) impacted me was in Genesis chapter 13. Abraham and Lot found it necessary to separate and go different directions because the land they were in could not sustain all of their people, flocks, and herds. Abraham allowed Lot to choose his direction first. Lot "lifted up his eyes" to see what looked appealing to him, however his choice was based on selfish motives and ultimately led to destruction. On the other hand, after Lot departed, God said to Abraham, "Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever" (Genesis 13:14-15).

Lot selfishly lifted his own eyes to pursue what looked best to him. Abraham allowed God to be the lifter of his eyes and God's grace and promises were made evident to him. With this in mind, my aim with LUYE By Design is to operate and live in such a way that God alone is the lifter of my eyes, I remain in awe of Him, and He gets the glory.

Other passages give further perspective as well.

Isaiah 40:26 says, "Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars, the One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing." This passage "right sizes" me in perspective to God as creator and the only all powerful One.

Psalm 121:1-2 says, "I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."

In John 17, Jesus begins His "High Priestly Prayer" by "lifting up His eyes to heaven." He had accomplished the work that the Father had for him such that his followers could now lift their eyes to the Father.

"Lift Up Your Eyes" is a reminder to me in business and in life to be present, less distracted, and to recognize that often the best things are right in front of me. But, more than that, it reminds me that honoring God in everything is the most important thing I can do with my business and my life so that others may come to know Him as well.
